Professional Dental Cleanings and Extractions
Cats and dogs have teeth too, which is why routine professional dental cleanings are so important to ensure your pet stays happy and healthy. A registered veterinary technician will perform a dental cleaning on your pet, take digital dental x-rays of the mouth, and work with a veterinarian to extract diseased teeth.
We use the same instruments as a human dentist to scale off plaque and tartar from the tooth surface and under the gumline. We then polish the teeth using a flouride paste. This step is the most important part of a dental cleaning in order to smooth out the tooth's surface after scaling.
If we see that a tooth is diseased, extraction is our treatment. We know that diseased teeth cause our patients pain, and we want to allieviate that pain in the best way we can. Our registered veterinary technicians and doctors have had advanced training in dentistry and in the art of extractions. We use nerve blocks to prevent as much pain as possible, and we send our patients home with pain medication for controlled pain management.
